Pliitz Splash Screen

Changelog

0.8.2

  • Fixed — The credit-removal preference is no longer handled in the free build at all. The option to hide the small Pliitz credit is a Pro feature and its saving now lives entirely in the Pro add-on, so the free plugin ships no locked or hidden feature. No change for users: the free plugin always shows the credit; Pro removes it.

0.8.1

  • New — The [pliitz id=”123″] shortcode now works. Place it on any page to show that particular splash there instead of whichever one is active site-wide.
  • Changed — Video, Lottie and animated-SVG rendering has been moved out of this plugin entirely and into the separate Pro add-on. This plugin shows logo/text and image splashes, with no disabled code left behind.
  • Fixed — A splash background could contain characters that broke out of the stylesheet in the editor preview. Backgrounds are now cleaned before use.
  • Fixed — The two tracking endpoints reported success when they had actually refused a request with a stale security token. They now report the refusal correctly.
  • Fixed — The setup wizard loaded its translations earlier than WordPress allows, which produced a notice in debug mode. Translations are now loaded at the proper time.
  • Fixed — A documentation link pointed at a page that does not exist; it now points to the privacy policy.

0.8.0

  • New — A “Made with Pliitz Splash Screen” credit now appears at the foot of the splash, with the Pliitz mark above it. Removing the credit is a Pro feature.
  • New — When a splash has no logo, no heading and no sub-text it now shows your site title instead of an empty coloured screen, so a brand-new splash never looks broken.
  • Changed — Display-frequency wording is clearer. “Once ever” is now “Once per visitor”, and the settings screen explains what a session is and where the record is kept (in the visitor’s own browser, never on your server).
  • Changed — The retired “Once per visit” option has been removed from the settings screen. It behaved identically to “Once per session”, so choosing it was misleading. Existing saved settings continue to work and are treated as “Once per session”.
  • Changed — The splash-count limit is now a plain, filterable allowance that is the same for everyone, rather than something tied to a licence. Creating several named splashes has always been part of the free plugin.
  • Changed — Documentation now covers uninstalling, privacy, external services, and what Pliitz Pro is, so it is clear what the plugin does and does not do with your data.
  • Fixed — “Add New Splash” could silently do nothing. It now works as expected, and if you ever do reach the limit it says so instead of quietly returning you to the list.
  • Fixed — The splash’s covering styles are now loaded the standard WordPress way. Behaviour is unchanged — the splash still covers the page from the very first frame — but the plugin plays better with caching, optimisation and security plugins.
  • Fixed — Internal housekeeping across the admin screens: safer output handling throughout, stricter checking of submitted data, and clearer internal naming. No change to how anything looks or behaves.

0.7.1

  • Fixed: on returning visits (when the splash is skipped), the page could briefly flash — shrunk, shifted, and on a white background — before settling. The skip-button style was accidentally sharing a name with an internal state marker and painting onto the whole page for a moment; the two are now separate so the page paints correctly from the first frame.

0.7.0

  • Fixed: the “Active” toggle in the splash editor now activates a splash instantly (no separate Save needed), matching how it looks — flipping it switches the live splash right away, just like the Splashes list.
  • Changed: the WordPress dashboard widget now has the branded header bar (logo on a blue band), matching the rest of the tools.
  • Changed: code-quality pass across the admin screens — safer output escaping and clearer internal variable names throughout (no change to behaviour).

0.6.7

  • New — A richer “Upgrade to Pro” window with a seat selector (1 site, 5 sites, unlimited) and clear pricing, plus a dedicated Upgrade page showing exactly what Pro adds.
  • New — Full translation template (.pot) covering every screen, so Pliitz can be translated into any language.
  • Improved — The onboarding welcome screen now shows the full-colour Pliitz logo, and its progress dots sit correctly beneath the button.
  • Fixed — Upgrade wording across the plugin now lists the real Pro features (video, SVG and Lottie splashes, Site Fonts, and scheduling) instead of out-of-date placeholders.
  • Security — Hardened licence validation with a unique per-plugin signing secret.

0.6.6

  • New — Icons throughout: every page header and every card now carries its own icon, so screens read at a glance (Dashboard charts, Settings cards, the splash editor, and the Schedule Calendar).
  • New — A “Credits & Thanks” panel on the Settings page listing the open-source projects Pliitz builds on.
  • New — Helpful sidebar guidance: a “which splash type to choose” summary on the Splashes list, and a plain-language guide on the Schedule Calendar.
  • Improved — A full, detailed User Manual with a dedicated section for each splash type. Open it from the Dashboard.
  • Changed — “Customise colours” now uses UK spelling, to match the rest of the plugin.

0.6.5

  • Improved — Text size is now a pixel slider (up to 200px for headings) instead of the old Small / Medium / Large / X-Large steps, so you can size heading and sub-text exactly. Existing splashes carry over to their nearest size automatically.
  • New — A “Space between” control sets the gap between heading and sub-text. It stays put now: making the sub-text bigger no longer pushes the heading away.

0.6.4

Housekeeping: the plugin folder and text domain are now the full “pliitz-splash-screen” (the WordPress.org slug), matching the plugin name. No change to how anything works — your splashes, settings and schedules are untouched.

0.6.3

  • New (Pro) — Holiday reference: look up any of 49 countries’ public holidays (plus UN / UNESCO international days) for the year, right where you schedule a splash. A country picker on the Schedule Calendar page, and a “Look up a holiday date” button on the splash editor that opens a lookup window — click a holiday and its date drops straight into the schedule. Data is bundled locally (no internet needed) and includes local-language holiday names.
  • New — Dashboard charts: a second donut showing how often your splashes are set to appear (once per session, daily, once ever, every visit), and a “Played vs skipped” bar per splash — green for splashes that played through, blue for the ones visitors dismissed — so you can see which splashes interrupt.
  • New — a small “why Pliitz?” note in the dashboard sidebar.

0.6.2

  • Renamed: the plugin is now Pliitz (was “Spliish Splash Screen”). Everything works exactly as before — your splashes, settings and licence carry over automatically on update. Only the name and menu label change.

0.6.1

  • New: a rebuilt Settings page — one screen of cards (no tabs). A System Status card, your new-splash defaults, site-wide behaviour and the licence are all in view at once.
  • New: site-wide controls that apply to every splash — Pause all splashes (a master off switch), Never show on chosen pages or URL paths (e.g. /checkout/* or /my-account/*), and Hide from chosen user roles (so staff aren’t interrupted). Roles with no users yet are shown greyed.
  • New: the Splash Screen and Timing settings are now the defaults a NEW splash starts with, and are actually applied when you create one. Changing them does not affect splashes you have already made.
  • New: a Maintenance card — Reset “seen” records (so every visitor sees splashes fresh again) and Delete all data on uninstall (off by default, so your data is kept if you reinstall).
  • Fixed: on the Settings page the frequency dropdown no longer clips its text, the background-colour picker shows a proper swatch (not a thin line), and the logo is now a Choose / Upload picker instead of a plain URL box.

0.6.0

  • New (Pro) — Schedule Calendar: a month-grid view of your splashes. See at a glance which splash shows on each day — your daily default (green) and any scheduled takeovers (blue) — and click a day to jump straight to that splash. Navigate months, jump to today, and read a clear key for what each chip means.
  • New (Pro) — Activation history: Pliitz now records which default splash was live and from when, so the calendar shows what ACTUALLY showed on past days instead of changing when you switch the default. Past days keep the name of the splash that was active at the time, even if you later rename or delete it.
  • New: past days read as a recorded fact (solid), future days as a forecast (dashed, marked “planned”), days with nothing active as “none”, and days before tracking began as “no record” — each with a word and a shape, not colour alone.
  • Internal: a small activation-log table is added on update; history starts being recorded from the moment you update.

0.5.0

  • New (Pro) — Logo / image overlay on a video splash: lay a PNG or SVG over the video, for a plain-motion clip with no built-in text. Choose Full (cover the whole video) or one of nine anchor positions on a widescreen position picker, set the size, and — for a boxed video — keep the overlay inside the box or let it break out to fill the whole screen.
  • New (Pro) — Overlay timing: show the overlay for the whole splash, just the first few seconds, just the last few seconds, or a set window. For an uploaded video the timing follows the real clip length; the editor’s Play button now demos it so you can see exactly when it appears.
  • New (Pro) — Overlay appearance: a transparency slider, and a single-colour option that floods a logo to one ink while keeping its transparency (works on PNG and SVG). SVG overlays are recoloured as vector, so they stay perfectly crisp at any size.
  • New: contextual help in the sidebar — the Dashboard, the Splashes list and each splash type (Logo / Text, Image, Web Video, SVG, Lottie) now show a short explanation and a tip for the screen you’re on.
  • Fixed: a recoloured SVG overlay no longer looks fuzzy on the video — it is now recoloured as vector instead of being flattened to a small image.

0.4.0

  • New (Pro) — Video splash mode: play a video as your splash, from one of two sources chosen with a simple toggle. Upload a self-hosted MP4 for the cleanest, chrome-free result, or paste a YouTube link (with a “paste embed code” fallback if the link gives trouble). The video plays muted and looping so it autoplays reliably, with controls for loop, mute and alt text.
  • New: “Hold for the video length” — the splash can stay up for exactly as long as the video runs, then fade out, instead of a fixed hold time. The Timing panel shows the real length automatically (read from the file), so the hold time is never misleading.
  • New: activate or turn off a splash straight from the Splashes list, without opening it — a clear on/off action per row (with a tick / circle marker, not colour alone).
  • Improved: the live preview now holds a video on its first frame (just like the real splash before it plays) and presses Play to run it through; the YouTube link field gained a clear (×) button; and the preview hint now reads “see how the splash plays” so it fits every splash type.

0.3.0

  • New (Pro) — Lottie splash mode: upload a Lottie animation (.json) and have it play as your splash, crisp at any size and lightweight. Includes an upload card (choose from the library or upload), a live preview, a loop toggle, and an Advanced panel beside the preview with a playback-speed control and a “match hold to animation length” option (hold the splash for exactly as long as the animation runs). The Lottie player is bundled (no external requests).
  • The Background card now notes that a Lottie animation is transparent unless it carries its own background plane (same caveat as animated SVG).
  • The Skip button now adapts to the splash background: on a light/white background it switches to a dark, clearly-bordered style so it stays visible instead of disappearing.
  • Fixed: a Lottie animation in Boxed mode now stays within the box instead of overflowing it.

0.2.0

  • New (Pro) — SVG colour customiser: recolour any individual element of an animated SVG splash without altering the original file. A “Customize colours” panel opens beside the live preview, lists every coloured element in the SVG, and gives each a colour picker; changes preview live and are saved per-splash. Works with any uploaded SVG.
  • The SVG Background card now notes that an animated SVG is transparent unless it carries its own full-size background plane, so the background colour shows through otherwise.

0.1.0

  • New (Pro) — Scheduled Splashes: schedule any splash to take over from the default for a period. Choose a one-off date range, or a date that repeats every year (e.g. a holiday like May 4 or July 4); annual ranges may cross the year-end (Dec 24 → Jan 2). A priority setting decides the winner when two scheduled splashes overlap. Dates use the site’s timezone.
  • The Splashes list shows a “Scheduled” badge (with the active window) on scheduled splashes.
  • The larger decorative font library is now a Pro feature; a core set of fonts ships with the free plugin.
  • Refinements to the splash overlay rendering, animation timing and the editor’s card-surface controls.

0.0.6

  • Fixed admin card corners: card bodies now have rounded bottoms, and cards under a tab row round their top-right corner.

0.0.5

  • Added: live “(x secs)” readouts and a visual timing envelope (with markers) showing delay, fade-in, hold and fade-out proportionally.
  • Added: Logo/Text card surface option — show the logo and text in a contained card (with background colour, corner radius, padding and an optional border) or full-bleed on the background.
  • Added: text transform and word-spacing controls for heading and sub-text.
  • Added: plugin-list description and “Get Pro” links, a dashboard upsell banner with an at-a-glance summary, and a one-time welcome screen on first activation.
  • Changed: gradient backgrounds are now built from two colour pickers plus a direction (no hand-typed CSS); the background controls sit on a single row.
  • Changed: heading/sub-text colour now uses the consistent colour-popover, and the advanced text panel is more compact.
  • Changed: bundled fonts now load on the front end so a chosen font actually applies.
  • Fixed: the editor live preview no longer shows the site header behind the splash.
  • Removed: the text-shadow control (superseded).

0.0.4

  • Added: Logo / Text splash editor — choose a logo from the Media Library or upload one to a dedicated Pliitz folder, with an auto-contrast preview.
  • Added: safe SVG uploads (sanitised) so vector logos can be used.
  • Added: logo size control and an advanced text panel — font, size, weight, italic, colour, alignment, letter-spacing and text shadow for the heading and sub-text.
  • Added: bundled font family selection for splash text.
  • Changed: splash text is no longer constrained to the logo width.

0.0.3

  • Added: new splash type picker — choose Logo / Text, Image, SVG, Lottie or Web Video when creating a splash (Lottie and Web Video are Pro).
  • Added: a full splash editor with a live preview that shows your splash over the real page, true to the visitor’s screen size, with a Play button to preview the animation.
  • Added: Logo / Text splash type — your logo plus optional heading and sub-text on a colour or gradient background.
  • Added: per-splash background (colour or gradient), display (boxed or responsive) with box sizing, timing, and trigger settings.
  • Changed: only one splash can be active at a time — activating a splash now switches any other active splash off.
  • Changed: the front end now renders each splash from its own settings.

0.0.2

  • Added: multiple named splash screens, each with its own settings and shortcode.
  • Added: a Splashes management list with one-click shortcode copy.
  • Added: a dedicated editor for each splash.
  • Added: a shortcode to place any splash anywhere.
  • Added: an Upgrade page outlining the Pro features.
  • Changed: reorganised the admin menu into Dashboard, Splashes, Settings and Upgrade.
  • Changed: tidied the admin interface and kept the menu highlighted while editing.
  • Fixed: copying a shortcode now works and confirms on non-secure local sites.

0.0.1
