Before updating from version 4 to version 5 it is strongly recommended to remove old events
Version 5 is a MAJOR UPDATE: events are now stored as custom post types. When upgrading from an existing installation, old events will be automatically converted to the new format.

However, if you performed customization on your styles and don’t wish to lose your customization, you should check that the calendar is still displaying as expected.
